The Best Holiday

The Algarve
The best memories that I keep in mind was in the 2008 summer when I travelled for the first time with my family to Algarve. It´s the greatest holiday that I ever had. The reason why is because everting was new for me.
We stayed in a camping park a huge one with attractive activities. We went to the beach every day, the sea is very calm, the opposite to the north beaches, and he have the famous bolas de berlim, they tasted delicious. At night we walked around the town, it´s crowded and busy but was nice seeing street stalls and ate a big ice-cream.
Another interesting part of this holiday was when we went to Aquashow. I Tried all the attraction, but my favourite was the roller coaster. This day was unforgettable in a good way except for the meal, it´s expensive and the hotdog only had a sausage nothing else. So I was still hungry.
I also need to talk about the zoomarine. We stopped there one the way for home and I loved the dolphins show. At the end of the show a seal came and kissed me, it was a strange felling because of the whiskers but at the same time very funny.

Switzerland

Me and my family, including my cousins and uncles, last Christmas, went to Zurich by plane. As we have an aunt in Switzerland, most of us stayed in her house. She has lived there for a long time now, so she helped us to visit good places.

We visited some places in city centre like the most expensive street in Zurich, FIFA World Football Museum and an enormous train station, where we saw a lot of Christmas’ decoration and a big and shiny Christmas tree adorned with Swarovski crystals stones.

We also travelled by ferry on Lake Zurich. It was an amazing trip where I could enjoy beautiful postcards landscapes. I have never been on a boat before, so it was my first time and I loved this experience.

On Christmas Eve, as a bracarense family, we went to Christmas’ market place and we took some bananas with us for our “Bananeiro”. After that we spent the Christmas on a large and cosy house. I think it was one of the best Christmas ever.

Studying and Travelling

Sherborne – Dorset – UK

I don’t have a favourite trip but I think the most different I went was in 2019 with my friends.

We went to Sherborne and we met a lot of new people and new places. I think that it was a cosmopolitan place because it had a lot of cultures mixed in one place and we  talked to each other everyday so we could learn some things about others people cultures.

I learnt a lot and new things everyday so because of that i think it was a really a good experience.

A bad thing that happened to me was in one trip i got lost alone with no phone because mine was broken and stopped working during the holiday but I found my friends and it ended well (lucky me!).

One thing that I liked a lot was to try new foods like fish and chips and i liked the smell of candies whenever I went to an old candyshop. I saw a lot of old and historic places and I still think that they are really pretty but the one that I was impressed by was the Oxford University (I loved the canteen cause it reminded me of Harry Potter).

New York

New York
Francisca
We arrived in the airport at around 10 o’clock, it was late, so the airport was almost empty. We got into the train and went to the hotel in Brooklyn.
Over the next four days we went visited the city, it was so cold that I couldn’t feel my fingers. The city is very beautiful, but it was too crowded, but you can’t expect that New York would be peaceful right?
With all of that people you can see a lot of trash in the floor. In the streets you can smell the burgers, French fries and hear the cars honking. Being there made me understand that New York has the poor side and the expensive side.

Inglorious

Inglorious is an expertly directed movie with a very audacious theme as Quentin Tarantino himself said The problem with doing World War II research is that it can derail you”. This master piece is based on Enzo Castellari’s 1978 Italian World war II film.

In brief resume the movie is about a group of eight jews and their mission is to terrorize the enemy in Nazi occupied France by desecrating and butchering the bodies of the soldiers with only one remaining so their story could be told.

Inglorious, from my point of view, is a master piece, however many believe that due to it’s over the top violence might not be the most appropriate movie for the youth. On the contrary, I stand by the opinion that the glamorized violence is an integral part of Quentin Tarantino’s style.

Vincent Van Gogh

Vincent Van Gogh was born in1853 and died in1890 in Auvers-sur-Oise.

Vincent Van Gogh is a post-impressionist artist that wasn’t recognized until his death. In fact, the only person that bought his paintings was his brother.

Now his paintings are worth millions and some of them are known all over the world, like “Sunflowers” and “Starry night”.

A lot of people believe he was schizophrenic and in one of those attacks he cut off his own ear. One of his paintings comes from that but no one could ever prove that he had that mental illness.

In my opinion, the only proof that we have is that he is a genius, and we can see that by looking at his amazing paintings.

Franklin Roosevelt

Franklin Roosevelt was an American politician, who was elected president of the USA in the early 30s.

He was in the USA presidency during the “Great Depression” and he managed to turn the country’s situation around. To achieve that he instituted a recovery plan, the “New Deal”, creating lots of jobs and saving the country’s economy, which was down at its worst.

In my opinion Franklin Roosevelt is an inspiration and an example of determination, because even though he was disabled he became president of the USA and helped the country go through such a difficult time.

Freddie Mercury

Freddie Mercury was born in 1949, in the British colony of Tanzania, on the African west coast.

When he was only fifteen years old, he already had a great and unique voice, so his mother sent him to a singing school in India, where he found amazing kinds of music.

When Tanzania became independent, his family flew to Britain, where Freddie continued his studies.

Later, in the mid 60s he founded Smile, a band that would later become Queen, with Brian May, the guitarist of Queen, and Roger Taylor, the drummer of Queen. Queen is composed of John Deacon, Roger Taylor, Brian May and Freddie Mercury.

Besides Queen, who he created several world-famous songs with, such as Bohemian rhapsody, Somebody to Love, Under Pressure, he also had a solo career. He performed with Montserrat Caballé, an opera singer, composing Barcelona¸ which was going to be played at the ‘92 Barcelona Olympic Games.

Freddie Mercury is also known for being one of the first to admit he had HIV and to reveal his bisexuality.

In the end, we can claim that Freddie Mercury is a one-of-a-kind artist, becoming one of the most famous and most influential artists in the world, influencing artists like, Axl Rose, from Guns ’n’ Roses, Lady Gaga, and, of course, me.

Eminem

This modern-day artist had many problems throughout his life and music career, and one of them was his skin color. Progression in his career was tough simply because of that. Being white on the hip-hop and rap scene isn’t an easy thing.

He makes elevating, inspiring and motivating music. He says whatever is on his mind, sometimes not being politically correct but being himself. He plays different characters, one of them being Slim Shady.

I chose Eminem because he is the perfect example of hard work and dedication, going against everything and everyone, achieving success pretty much alone.

Angus Young

Angus McKinnon Young was born on 31st of March 1950, in Scotland. Although he is Scottish, he lives in Australia because he has always loved this country.

He got famous for playing in a band which he founded with his brother Malcom, AC/DC. The band’s name is from a sticker that they found behind their sister’s sewing machine when they were only 9 and 14 years old! Now, AC/DC is separated due to illness of one of the members and Angus is playing with other iconic bands like, for example, Guns N’ Roses.

He always plays with a school uniform because when the band started he didn’t have time to change clothes for the concerts, which were usually after classes. So, his sister suggested that it should be his symbol in every concert, even after he finished school. He is also known for his own guitar model, Gibson SG which he uses in every concert.

Although he is 61 years old, he is very energetic on stage and he says that, when he climbs up and sees all the audience, it is like he is 16 years old again. Surprisingly, he is only 1,57 meters high and is one of the best guitarists ever.
