Freddie Mercury

Freddie Mercury was born in 1949, in the British colony of Tanzania, on the African west coast.

When he was only fifteen years old, he already had a great and unique voice, so his mother sent him to a singing school in India, where he found amazing kinds of music.

When Tanzania became independent, his family flew to Britain, where Freddie continued his studies.

Later, in the mid 60s he founded Smile, a band that would later become Queen, with Brian May, the guitarist of Queen, and Roger Taylor, the drummer of Queen. Queen is composed of John Deacon, Roger Taylor, Brian May and Freddie Mercury.

Besides Queen, who he created several world-famous songs with, such as Bohemian rhapsody, Somebody to Love, Under Pressure, he also had a solo career. He performed with Montserrat Caballé, an opera singer, composing Barcelona¸ which was going to be played at the ‘92 Barcelona Olympic Games.

Freddie Mercury is also known for being one of the first to admit he had HIV and to reveal his bisexuality.

In the end, we can claim that Freddie Mercury is a one-of-a-kind artist, becoming one of the most famous and most influential artists in the world, influencing artists like, Axl Rose, from Guns ’n’ Roses, Lady Gaga, and, of course, me.
